Looking Back
10 years ago today, in a small town in Colorado, the scope of our world changed. Two students armed with weapons and hate attacked their peers without mercy in the deadliest massacre to date on an American high school. As reports started flooding the news outlets, emotions of confusion, panic, anger, fear, despair and numbness set in. However, as our nation’s eyes turned towards Columbine, Colorado, an interesting story began to emerge. A story of courage, passion, truth, conviction, boldness and faith.
As the 10th anniversary of Columbine approached, I had the opportunity to read Rachel’s Tears (written by her parents Beth Nimmo and Darrell Scott), an incredible book that profiles Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine attacks. This story gave me insight on a young girl who had a BIG faith. Her letters, copied from pages of her journal, show a girl who had such a big heart, loved everyone, and desired to follow His will for her life above all else. I learned that the two students responsible for the attacks made a calculated attempt to target Christians. In Rachel’s case, she was asked pointedly if she was a Christian. She responded by saying, “You know I am.” She was then immediately executed.
Her story seems so fitting for Unmuted. She spoke truth into a situation that she knew would end her life. The impact she made has had a lasting effect and has opened so many hearts to the greater calling. Today we stop for a moment and honor a life that has touched so many. A fallen soldier, a martyr for her faith.

Thanks so much for posting that! Have you seen her fathers story on sermonspice.com?
I used it at an event I was speaking at dealing with “Forgiveness”. It is very powerful!
Thank you so much for honoring Rachel!
